Saalfelden enjoys an unmatched location as it is only a 5-minute drive to the Skicircus, 10-minute to Hochkönig – Maria Alm and within a 15-minute drive you can also explore Zell am See – Kaprun. Saalfelden itself offers a vast amount of activities from guided hiking tours to horse-drawn carriage rides and yoga classes with a view. The small town Saalfelden is incredibly picturesque and is located right by a beautiful mountain lake offering a natural swimming facility while looking at the famous “Steinernes Meer” mountains. Saalfelden is located only 1 hour from Salzburg airport and 2 hours 20 minutes from Munich airport.

Ski Scene
Within a 15-minute drive Saalfelden offers over 500km of perfect slopes. The Skicircus comprises of 270km across the mountains of Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Leogang and Fieberbrunn and it is the third largest ski resort in Austria. The Skicircus is one of the most varied ski regions with 140km of blue runs, 112km of red runs and 18km of black runs at altitudes over 2,000m. The high altitude also allows for a long season with plenty of snow from November until April. If you are looking for a little more action the Nitro Snowpark is for you offering a variety of jumps for every level including airbag jumps to guarantee a soft landing.
Another major ski resort, only 15 minutes from Saalfelden is the Zell am See – Kaprun. The Zell am See-Kaprun ski area offers 140km of skiing. While skiing on the perfectly groomed slopes flanked by snow topped trees you can enjoy the view over the valleys and the Lake Zell. This superb destination can be visited for winter sport activities up to 10 months a year due its glacier which reaches altitudes of over 3,000m. At a lower altitude in the Zell am See area you can discover over 100km of cross-county tracks while taking in the breathtaking views.

Summer Fun
The scenery in Saalfelden is absolutely breathtaking in summer. The meadows are covered in wild flowers and on the mountains you can spot wild animals in their natural habitat. This nature sanctuary is the perfect place to explore over 400km of marked hiking trails while overlooking numerous crystal-clear mountain lakes. For those who are looking for something speedy you will find more than 480km cycle paths though the valleys.
Saalfelden has many daytrip activities for the whole family to enjoy. The waterparks and bathing in the Ritzensee lake are a perfect way to cool down on a hot summer day. An absolute must activity in Saalfelden is the toboggan run, it is a 1,6km long toboggan which winds its way across the Saalfeldner Biberg with brilliant view over Saalfelden. Some further sporting activities available in Saalfelden include, golfing, tennis, horse riding and mountain climbing. For those wishing to expand their knowledge there are a number of museums in the region, for instance the Schloss Ritzen museum and the mining and gothic museum Leogang.
For more than 30 years, Saalfelden has been home to one of the greatest Jazz festivals in the musical calender. The International Jazzfestival Saalfelden is a celebration suited to all, as it paves the way for the development of diverse arts and culture in the region.
